Whenever a celebrity such as Kylie Jenner or John Travolta has a dramatic change in appearance there is always speculation whether cosmetic surgery is the prime suspect. And for good reason says skin specialist Rebecca Fadanelli of Skin Beauté Med Spa in Randolph MA. www.bellaskinbeaute.com
There are signs that millennials are starting to seek out minor cosmetic procedures as affluence increases. However this generation have a completely different motivation than previous generations. According to the The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery “For better or worse, “selfie-awareness” is more than a fad. In 2017, 55 percent of facial plastic surgeons saw patients who want to look better in selfies in their practices (up 13 percent from 2016).
First identified by AAFPRS members more than three years ago in the annual survey, the trend continues to gain steam and transform the facial plastic surgery industry.
According to AAFPRS President William H. Truswell, M.D. “More and more of our patients are using social media as a forum to gain a sense of solidarity when under-going a major, potentially life-changing procedure. Consumers are only a swipe away from finding love and a new look, and this movement is only going to get stronger.”
“The popularity of anti aging and skin wrinkle treatments is showing no sign of decreasing. There were 7.23 million Botulinum Toxin Type A procedures last year in the U.S. that is up 2 percent from the year before.” says Rebecca quoting the 2017 Plastic Surgery Statistics Report from the American Society for Plastic Surgeons.
The most popular treatment is an FDA-approved purified protein derived from the botulinum toxin, and is most commonly used to treat and prevent wrinkles on the face and is increasing in popularity to treat wrinkles in the forehead area according to Google Trends.
Also, according to the report Soft Tissue Fillers are also up 3 percent from 2016 with a total of 2.69 million procedures last year in the United States. Chemical Peels were up by 1 percent since 2016.
There are several popular injectables available to both celebrities and the average person. “Another popular treatment is hyaluronic acid to add volume and hydration to the mouth and lips” says Rebecca. “There is a solid demand for both types of treatments.”
