Atkinson's Fall From Grace to Super Golf League

Phoenix, Arizona Mar 5, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - After a long weekend at this year, Genesis Open held at the Prestigious Riviera Country Club located on the outskirts of Los Angeles, I was able to sit down with Professional Golfer Lathan Atkinson and ask him of his recent whereabouts, life away from golf, his troubled and very controversial career on and off the course, and the rumour of his possible jump to the Super Golf League. This random run-in came as a surprise after a brief encounter with him at last week's Waste Management Open in Phoenix. In 2013 after qualifying for the Asian PGA Tour, he has barely been seen or heard of. Interesting as it may seem, he came back in early 2021 for competition and surprisingly was able to secure a multi-million dollar sponsorship with a very popular Japanese Golf and Sports company based out of Japan. Then COVID hit the world and he seemed to drop from the public eye once again. After talking to a few of his peers, there were mixed opinions on his return to golf. Subjects ranging from his playing ability to his personal life off the course, which included an incident with an exotic entertainer who accused him of sexual assault. Later the case was legally dismissed due to witness statements before the supposed allegation happened. But once again the damage had already been done, and his reputation was once again tarnished. After a little investigating, I found out that Atkinson has been linked to the borage of semi-famous internet Instagram models and influencers with which he had affairs or brief relationships with. Atkinson has also been linked to famous actors and musicians with which he had been regularly seen at parties and nightclubs.The list was quite intriguing. When I asked him about those topics, he kind of had little to say and just redirected the questions back to golf. I also asked him about the rumoured relationships with known criminals and so-called street thugs he grinned and commented, "Everyone has a past and I'm not the one to judge what a person does, or how they make their money. I've made so many mistakes in life by making bad judgement calls in relation to my private life and career, it would probably be a Best Seller if I wrote a book about everything. One thing I will say is that I kind of grew up in the street. I will inevitably be always loyal to the street, but let it be known, I can't fuck around in the street because I have too much to lose. All my friends know that. As for my supposed appetite for Instagram famous models or strippers, there's some truth in that, but trust me I know what comes with that territory. Is it all about the money and their perception of what I might have? Yes, money definitely helps that perception because you have a lot more options. However, I do think I maneuver a lot different than what these girls are used to, which I think might be charming to them dude.

A lot of rumours running around about the question you asked me earlier about having a kid with a stripper? What the hell, where did you get that from? I have one daughter and she's grown, so let's just leave it at that." Quoted. After the comments made by him, I asked about his golf career in general.He stated " I've made so many mistakes, disappointed a lot of people, including my sponsors, friends and family in which I apologize, but I know I can play and be competitive. I've been given so many chances and I just pray that the future might hold great things for me and my career is still salvageable."

When asked about his possible jump to the Super Golf League, his only response was "We'll see". Before I close this article, my thoughts on Atkinson after spending a little time with him on this beautiful Saturday afternoon, in the Genesis Open sponsors venue on the VIP backlot. I think I may have a better insight and understanding of what people may have perceived of Atkinson. I've had an opportunity to see him play in the past and I do agree with his peers that he does have talent. Does he have enough grind and work ethic to make a positive name for himself in golf, and on the tour? That remains to be seen. Maybe the highly controversial and Saudi backed Super Golf League, might be the right place for him.
